"Growth occurs when individuals confront problems, struggle to master them, and through that struggle develop new aspects of their skills, capacities, views about life."
Carl R. Rogers

People access counselling for many reasons: you may have a specific issue you are dealing with, you may be finding it hard to cope with life or need to share something with someone confidentially.

Counselling sessions are on a one to one basis. They are set in a comfortable, quiet  space allowing a safe, supportive, non-judgemental and respectful atmosphere for you to speak about and explore whatever you need to.

ABOUT ME AND MY PRACTICE
profile WS.jpg

I have a Masters’ degree in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy gained from the University of Nottingham.  As a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and an Accredited member of the National Counselling and  Psychotherapy Society I adhere to their codes of ethical practice, engage in on-going training, continuous professional development (CPD) and supervision.

Prior to qualifying as a counsellor, in a professional career spanning over 30 years, I have developed a wealth of experience working with people who are going through significant life changing events.

I offer counselling for adults of all ages and value working with a diverse range of people.  I have particular experience and interest in the areas of personal growth; dealing with anxiety and stress; neurodiversity; trauma; self-harm; substance use as a coping mechanism; people experiencing issues around their identity and relationships with others.

PERSON-CENTRED APPROACH

Person-centred counselling is a talking therapy which focuses on the individual, their experiences and perspective making them, as the client, central to the counselling process.
As a person-centred therapist I will work collaboratively with you to facilitate you becoming more open to your own experience and developing trust in yourself through a more balanced internal evaluation.
Person-centred counselling is effective for those experiencing a range of personal and emotional issues for example anxiety, depression, loss or stress. These conditions may impact on your self-esteem, autonomy and feelings of self-worth. Person-centred therapy can help you reconnect with your inner self to explore and develop your  emotional resilience and personal identity to enable and strengthen personal growth.
